Diabetes can strike anyone at anytime, and I am living proof. In November 2006, at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with Diabetes and I am currently insulin dependent. I never thought I was a candidate to get diabetes and I certainly do not fit the typical profile. I exercise regularly, I try to eat healthy, I am not overweight and there is no family history. When I was first diagnosed I probably experienced many of the same emotions that others in my situation experience. From fear and denial to eventual acceptance, I knew I had to take control of the situation and I made it a personal goal to learn everything I could about Diabetes. It wasn’t just a matter of doing it for my own well-being; I was doing it for my family. I immersed myself in literature and did everything I could to educate myself on the disease. I learned about the different treatment options, the different medications, lifestyle changes and where to get help. While I continue to educate myself on the disease, the most important thing I have learned is that Diabetes can be controlled and those affected can continue to live long and healthy lives. The key to controlling the disease and living a happy and productive life can only be achieved through education and self-management.
I have learned to live with Diabetes. I have developed good habits which include frequent testing, going to regularly scheduled doctor’s visits, participating in groups with other diabetics, and proper exercise and diet. These habits are the same messages that we share with all of our fellow diabetic customers at Diabetes Living Systems. I am proud to be part of a company that works to exceed the customer’s expectations on delivery of testing supplies, and that is dedicated to providing the most current information available on Diabetes. I want to thank you for being a valued customer.
